The shop was founded in 1882 by Mr Walter Glendinning.

It has been in the family ever since.

We opened with an advert in the August 4th 1882 Edition of the Annandale Observer.

It stated:

HATS! HATS!! HATS!!!
W.GLENDINNING
Has now OPENED the SHOP in
the HIGH STREET lately occupied by Miss IRVINE,
Milliner, where he is showing a large assortment of

SILK HATS, WINCEY SHIRTS, FELT HATS, WHITE SHIRTS, SOFT FELT HATS COLLARS, BOYS FELT HATS , CUFFS, YOUTHS’ FELT HATS, FRONTS, TAM O’ SHANTERS, STUDS, SHOOTING CA, SCARFS, FISHING CAPS, TIES, BALMORALS, UMBRELLAS, GLENEAGLES, BRACES, MADE CAPS, CRICKET BELTS. GENTS HOSIERY OF EVERY DESCRIPTION.

The shop has expanded slightly over the years.

We originally occupied No 109 high St, Annan.

The picture above shows Mr Walter Glendinning standing outside the shop. This picture was taken around the turn of the 20th century.

Since this the shop has expanded into 107 High Street (to the right of the picture) and upwards into the flat above.

The shop is now run by Mr Walter Glendinning (the original Walter’s grandson) and his son, Duncan

We still stock quite a few of the original range offered in 1882 with a few additions. We have been supplying kilt hire to the local area for the last 30 years and currently can supply up to forty different tartans. If you are interested in hiring kilts we have more information.
